CEU Credit Information

Continuing Education Credit Information


All attendees receive Maryland Social Work Category I CEU Credits and DC Social Work Credits. Maryland CEU Institute/Optimal Life Solutions, LLC is an approved sponsor of the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners for continuing education credits (Category 1 CEUs) for licensed social workers in Maryland. MD CEU Institute has also received written approval from the DC Board of Social Work for all 2018 workshops.  These credits are accepted for most other mental health professionals in the region.  Please see below for detailed information about Social Work credit acceptance for other mental health professionals.

**Anyone who is not present for more than 30 minutes of any workshop will have credits deducted from their CEU certificate.**

Please note: There is no additional charge for these CEU Credits – the cost is already included in the registration fee (the only exception is when a student rate is offered, in which case no CEU credits will be provided for a student rate).

Credit Acceptance Information for Other Mental Health Professionals

Maryland Professional Counselors and Therapists including Alcohol and Drug Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists

MD Social Work credits are accepted by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors because the Board of Social Work falls under the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in Maryland.  The Maryland code governing Authorization of Sponsored Continuing Education Programs for professional counselors, COMAR states that:

“A program sponsored by an accredited institution of higher education and state departments of health and mental hygiene is automatically approved by the Board for Category A.”

Maryland Psychologists

The Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists accepts MD Social Work credits because the Board of Social Work falls under the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DMHM) in Maryland which is an Authorized Sponsor by the Board of Examiners of Psychologists.

Virginia Social Workers

The Virginia Board of Social Work accepts Maryland or DC Social Work credits.  The Regulations Governing the Practice of Social Work in Virginia states in section 18VAC140-20-105. Continued competency requirements for renewal of an active license:

d. Workshops, seminars, conferences or courses in the behavioral health field offered by an individual or organization that has been certified or approved by one of the following: (7) Any state social work board.

West Virginia Social Workers

The West Virginia Board of Social Work states the following on their website:

“Continuing Education Training Programs Outside of West Virginia: A licensee may attend a continuing social work training event in another state and obtain approval by the Board if the event is approved by another Social Work Board jurisdiction. The licensee shall offer written verification of state social work board approval in order to receive credit towards their West Virginia license upon request. The licensee will use provider number 499999 when completing their “Continuing Education Recording Form” and indicate the City and State in which they attended the event.”
